What is National Honor Society/National Junior Honor Society?

The National Honor and Junior Societies are organizations sponsored by school principals across the United States.  Its purpose is to recognize students who have good grades, who are willing to serve others, who will lead other in positive directions and who show good character.  Being an NHS/NJHS member is often recognized as the highest honor a high school student can receive.   

Who is eligible for NHS/NJHS?

For NHS 10th graders must have a final GPA of 3.500 at the end of the 9th grade year.  11th and 12th graders must have a final GPA of 3.250 at the end of the 10th or 11th grade year.  For NJHS an 8th grader must have a final GPA for the 7th grade of 3.500.

How are nominees selected?

Students who meet the grade point average requirement may indicate their interest in being considered for induction by completing an information sheet.  Points are awarded for service and leadership.  To learn more about NHS qualifications, click this link - Qualification Criteria for induction into NHS/NJHS.   An essay is required along with 2 teacher/coach/pastor/adult leader/employer recommendations.  The school faculty is then asked to make a final review of the students who have completed the requirements.

How do inductees become members?

Current members induct new members at a ceremony, which is held every year in November during the school day.    Students who transfer from another school as a member of NHS/NJHS will be accepted automatically if the student provides a “Letter of Good Standing” from his/her former school principal or NHS/NJHS advisor.

What responsibilities do members have?

Members are expected to maintain the high standards for which they were inducted and contribute to the success of school activities.  Each member is expected to participate in service projects and be a leader in the school.

 

National Honor Society Bylaws

Membership into the FCA National Honor Society is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have a responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

 

The NHS Bylaws include the policies and procedures adopted by the FCA National Honor Society.
